Tips to Unplug and Connect
If your family is too dependent on and distracted by devices, make a plan to unplug and connect. Take the initiative and make a plan. Use these seven tips to get started.
- Set Tech-Free Times
Designate certain hours or days as “no device zones.” For example, make dinner time, game night, or Sunday afternoons tech-free. Use this time for conversation, board games, cooking together, or outdoor activities. - Create Family Rituals
Replace screen time with rituals like evening walks, reading aloud, or storytelling. Let each family member take turns choosing an activity. - Explore Nature Together
Plan regular outings to parks, hiking trails, or even your backyard. Leave phones at home and focus on exploring, observing, and playing together. - Cook and Eat Together
Involve kids in meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. Use this as a chance to teach life skills and enjoy each other’s company without distractions. - Start a Family Project
Build something, plant a garden, or work on a craft. These hands-on activities foster teamwork and creativity, and they’re best enjoyed without screens. - Volunteer as a Family
Find local opportunities to serve together—help at a food shelf, clean up a park, or visit a nursing home. These experiences build empathy and connection. - Tech-Free Bedtime Routine
Establish a calming, device-free routine before bed—read, talk about the day, or pray together.
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.
