A Change of Perspective in a Pandemic
Are you ready for a total change of perspective during the pandemic? What if asking “How do I get out of this challenging time (financially, emotionally, spiritually)?” was replaced by a more thoughtful and proactive question, “What do I get out of this challenge?” There’s a totally different thought process in considering the “how” and the “what” of the current difficulties due to COVID-19.
When I was young, made a poor choice, and things didn’t work out as I’d hoped, my dad would rarely get mad. His response to my frustration, embarrassment or anger was typically, “Did you learn anything?” Rather than sit in the negative, he would encourage me to think of the positive. What did I learn as a result of the failure? How would I do things differently next time? What did this experience teach me?
I’ve been putting that concept into focus the past several months. The learning has been novel with a worldwide pandemic. The answers to the question, “What do I get out of this challenge?” often take me to a place of gratitude. I’ve spent more time with Scott and my boys. I’ve had time to play and train our puppy. I’ve prepared lots of new recipes. I’ve found great bible studies online and have prayed more for the nation and world than ever before.
The number of parents looking for encouragement has grown immensely. The time I’ve spent with parents has been a gift too. Whether via text, call, email, Zoom or FaceTime, I’ve been busy working with moms and dads to assist in these difficult times. The question range from, “Where is God in a time like this?” to “How can I use scripture to learn, discern, and protect my family?”
You, too, can have a change in perspective during the pandemic. Look for the what you’ve learned about God, yourself, and your family during this challenging time.
