Afraid, Yet Filled with Joy at EASTER
Are you afraid? Is joy missing in your life?
Today is Saturday, the dark and unknown day of Holy Week. As we struggle with the unknowns of life today as the result of COVID-19, consider how our feelings are similar to those of the disciples. Jesus had been crucified, was dead, and buried in a tomb guarded by Roman soldiers. The disciples were hiding in fear. They must have been exhausted, frightened, disappointed, and angry. Feelings we are now experiencing as we shelter in place.
The story continues. Jesus rose from the dead. The tomb was empty. Scripture tells us the women who were first at the garden on Sunday morning were met by an angel who told them, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-8. So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. (Emphasis mine.)
We can be afraid yet be filled with joy.
We know the story. We know Jesus. We know He has us firmly in the palm of His mighty hand, always. This is a message of HOPE and ASSURANCE for you and your family.
May the joy of Easter morning overshadow fear, and may the hope found only in Christ bring you peace.
