America's Forgotten Heritage

Happy Fourth of July! May this day be one of celebration, reflection, and gratitude for the ones who founded and sacrificed greatly for our nation. Freedom is a gift.

A few months ago Scott and I took the boys on a whirlwind American heritage tour. We visited Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Williamsburg. The tour was primarily historical with and an emphasis on our Christian heritage. To see the Liberty Bell inscribed with Leviticus 25:10, references to God Almighty etched in stone at the Jefferson monument, and Arnold Friberg’s painting of Washington in prayer at Valley Forge (displayed at Mt. Vernon) were evidence of the Lord’s involvement in our nation’s history. We have made a point of filling in the gaps with a Christian perspective of our nation’s founding, facts that are often left out of history curriculum.

My dear friend and mentor, Carol Olsen, has written a book to help parents share the founding of the United States of America with their children. America’s Forgotten Heritage is filled with family stories, activities, and references to scripture and original documents to guide your family from the time of the Mayflower to the Constitutional Convention, highlighting our Christian roots. Christianity and the Bible played a major role in our founding! You can find more about America’s Forgotten Heritage or order a copy of the book from Amazon.

God bless America!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.
