Choosing Hope: Nikki Abramson
Friends, it is my honor to introduce Nikki Abramson, a young woman with a story of hope, courage, and faith. May you be encouraged by her words.

When I was five-years-old, my doctors told my parents and me I would probably die in my teens. WOW! I had been diagnosed with mitochondria myopathy, a rare muscle disease that falls under the category of muscular dystrophy. My parents helped me through this by celebrating life. We knew that each and every day was a blessing. We didn’t take anything for granted. My parents encouraged me and knew God’s plan was bigger than their own. All we had in the beginning was faith. We learned that we constantly needed to trust in the Lord and His big plan for my future.
Flash forward 21 years. As an educator, knowing how five-year-olds think, I often wonder how I managed that difficult prognosis. God really did have a plan! “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
Part of God’s plan for me was to find my identity as an international, interracial Korean adoptee. I coped with growing up with a serious and rare medical disability. Really, hope was my only option. I have always been a fighter. I knew if I wanted to survive I must fight. I just didn’t realize the fight would continue.
With God’s help, I made it through my teens and into college. Eight months after graduating from college, I was in a car accident that resulted in body muscle spasms. I was diagnosed with dystonia. My teaching career was put on hold. What was I supposed to do with myself now? People told me I had a tale to tell, a story to inspire others. I wrote Find out more of my book or about me on my website or better yet come to my book launch party on Sunday May 4th, 2014 at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina from 2:00-5:00pm. I Choose Hope: Overcoming Challenges with Faith and Positivity. I wrote the book for myself and others who encounter challenges: the middle-schooler being teased for wearing braces, the twenty-year-old who couldn’t find a job, the parents going through a divorce. I Choose Hope is for anyone who struggles and desires to overcome. God used my experiences to help grow me, to overcome the many obstacles in my life. I felt it as my calling to write, share, and encourage others. And I count it a blessing.
I never set out to be a writer. I wanted to be a teacher. I believe what this book does best is to educate, providing a glimpse of heaven and a glimmer of hope. Hope something we all need.
