Family Fun at the Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving, a time to for family members to have fun with one another. When families join together around a holiday dinner table, reminiscing and reconnecting build long-lasting relationships. Gratitude is an attitude to encourage is kids of all ages, and adults too! Make part of your time together a learning experience for everyone too. If a game is part of the equation, it’s even more fun!

Thanksgiving Activities for the Whole Family

A Thanksgiving Day Quiz
Download A Thanksgiving Day Quiz for the Whole Family questions and answers. Divide into two teams. Choose one member of the family to be the moderator to read the questions and keep score. Internet access will be helpful for fact checking. Afterward, have fun prizes for the winning team; a chocolate  turkeys, a bag of candy corn, or getting out of dish duty.

Thanksgiving Proclamation
Read President Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation from 1863. Discuss the importance of gratitude for the blessings from God, including the family and our country.

Change What to Who
Rather than expressing thankfulness for what we have, ask each family member to choose a person they are grateful for and tell the family why. Read more about this twist on the typical, “What are you thankful for?” question in the post, A Thanksgiving Twist.

Set a Faith-filled Family Table
Get those little ones involved with their older siblings and cousins to make place cards and napkin rings for the Thanksgiving table. Download the templates and print on card stock. Cut the scripture cards and tie with ribbon or tape to cardboard tubes to create a napkin ring for each place setting. Cut the place card verses to allow for room to write the name of each guest.
