Home Improvement with Joanne Miller

Joanne Miller, RN, BSN, is a mom with a HUGE heart for God and families. She and Scott Turansky are the  co-founders of the National Center for Biblical Parenting. Lori and I were blessed to speak on their team at the Association of Marriage and Family Ministries conference in Dallas.
Joanne’s newest book, with Scott Turansky, is Home Improvement: The Parenting Book You Can Read to Your Kidsa hands-on parenting book with story form examples of how to change your child’s heart and behavior. It’s practical, warm, and filled with biblical truth for raising kids today. Home Improvement is a great read for parents…and kids!
Be blessed,
xoBecky

I love being a mom. It’s one of the most important things I do. God created me to not only raise my own kids but also to help other moms and dads work with their children. I feel the pleasure of God in my life as he uses me to help families grow and develop. My love for God, his Word, and the institution of the family all come together in my work at the National Center for Biblical Parenting.

I’m convinced that being a parent is the toughest, yet most rewarding job in the world. But every family is unique. Each child is different. No one solution fits all kids. In fact, there are many good ways to parent. Unfortunately, some parents aren’t using the best tools for their own family. With a few insights, suggestions, and support, families can flourish, not just survive the growth of their children.

Writing books, teaching parenting seminars, and equipping individual parents is a ministry that warms my heart. I regularly listen to challenges that seem too big, parents who feel overwhelmed, and children that have significant problems. I often have ideas and suggestions but even when I don’t, I know that my Heavenly Father does. He loves each of these parents as his own child. Sometimes parents know what the right thing is to do. It’s just hard. In those moments, God can sometimes use my comments to provide hope and encouragement.

I find that one of the most powerful strategies parents can embrace is the commitment to serve God and share that passion for the Lord with their children. Passing the faith on to kids contributes to every facet of their lives and as those children learn to think biblically, amazing things happen to their hearts.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.

This is Joanne Miller’s husband Ed. I always love to read articles written by my wonderful wife. I’m also a big supporter of Becky and her work with families and parents. Keep up the good work. Don’t forget to download your free Kindle copy of Home Improvement this weekend! It’s one of the only parenting books designed to be read to your kids. You follow a family through their various struggles and challenges and hear the input given to them by a teacher, neighbor, family member, pastor and dinner guests. The second part of each chapter is for the parent and gives additional advice on how to use the tool discussed in the chapter. Enjoy the read!
