JUNE… All About Dads
June is a great time to recognize the wonderful men in our lives; husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles, and others who enrich, help or just make us laugh. Father’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate these wonderful guys. This month, it’s all about the men!
A number of years ago, a friend sent me a cute quote, “Dad…a son’s first hero, a daughter’s first love.” I got to thinking…my dad was both. Was he perfect? No. But he was heroic in many ways and the measuring stick guys I dated had to live up to…only one did and I married him!
Dad was chivalrous, adventurous, handsome, and totally devoted to family. He taught me life lessons: believe in God, work hard, and persevere when the going gets rough. Practical skills like filleting a fish, shooting a rifle, and tying a half hitch were important too. Father’s Day is a time for me to reminisce as well as thank God for my sweet husband and terrific father-in-law.
Take time to focus on the men in your life this month. Let your husband know how much you respect, love, and appreciate him. As wives, we are called to respect our husbands (Ephesians 5:33). Men are commanded to love their wives as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25-33). That’s a TALL ORDER and a much more difficult task in my opinion. (I have to admit sometimes I’m not too lovable.)
Connect with your dad. Have lunch or call him just to say hello. Plan a time just for the two of you to be together.
My dad is still my hero and my first love. He will always hold that place in my heart. My husband is also my hero and my best friend.
Father’s Day is a good reminder to show these wonderful men how much they are respected and loved. Have a terrific month celebrating the men in your life!
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself,
and the wife must respect her husband.
