What’s Our Mission as a Family?
Family mission statements define the values, vision, and expectations of the family. Children typically live up to the expectations set for them. A well-defined description of who a family is and what they believe clarifies overarching goals for each member of the family.
What’s your family’s statement of intent?
Faith-filled families are centered in Jesus and focused on the Word of God, the Bible. Weave your beliefs, values, and vision into the mission statement.
Here are tips to use when writing your family’s mission statement.
- Goals are clearly stated.
- Every family member participates.
- Both values and vision are incorporated.
- Ways to accomplish the vision are part of the mission statement.
- Mission statements are concise. Example: The ______ Family desires to be Christ-centered, (values/attributes). Our vision is to accomplish this by (vision).
- All family members sign the statement.
- Post the family mission statement where everyone sees it daily.
Updated your family’s mission statement as your children grow and mature. Encourage your kids to live by what your family has written.
