The Gift of a Good Book
Guest blogger, Carol Olsen, is passionate about grandparents speaking into the lives of their grandchildren. Watch for more ideas from Carol on Faith First Parent.
Looking for a special gift for a young grandchild? Do a little research to find good books that share ideas of moral courage and virtue. Check out your church bookstore or visit online stores such as ChristianBook.com or ConservativeChildrensBooks.com. Read the comments and make your own decision. Order the books and read them yourself before giving them to a grandchild. You may be surprised at the unintended bias that could cloud the desirability of the book.
Two picture books I like are by Jennie Bishop. Both are excellent for young children. Young children will love the enticing art work.
The Princess and the Kiss teaches purity.
The Squire and the Scroll teaches courage and honesty.

Find great books for gifts. Remember to write an inscription in the cover, date it, add words of encouragement, and include a bible verse that emphasizes the meaning of the book. Books can be special and memorable gifts for children.
“No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally
– and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.”
