The Hard-Working Home Office
Home offices can be places were deals are made and businesses are run. They can also be a designated space where the CEO, CFO, and COO of the family, Mom and Dad, take care of everything kid related, from school permission slips and immunization records, to the family budget and taxes. Whether it’s a whole room or a desk, it’s a busy place.
My office is a small room off the mudroom Scott decided would be a great space for me to write. And it is! It’s cozy but large enough to accommodate all the tools of the trade; computer, printer, books, and necessary office supplies. I keep My Morning Prayer from a Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit front and center to keep me focused on why I do what I do and Who I’m doing it for ultimately.
Keeping a well stocked, ready-to-work home office space makes getting tasks accomplished easier. Here are some ideas to get you prepared to go to work and ideas to get your workspace organized.
Schedule a time to go through existing files and purge documents that are outdated or irrelevant. Do this for both hardcopy and electronic files. Shred personal information rather than throwing it in the trash.
Supplies can be stored in unique containers to add a little whimsy to your workspace. Try mason jars for writing utensils, a pretty little dish for paper clips, a cute basket for notepaper. Stacking trays or a bin with multiple shelves keeps paper organized. Sort through your personal library too. My favorites I keep, the ones I don’t look at very often get donated.

An organized, well-stocked workspace is an invitation to get busy. My home office is decorated with inspirational wall hangings. A detailed to-do list is next to the phone to keep me focused. And the family golden retriever is most often curled up on he floor to keep me company. Peace, quiet…and a long list of work to do!
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,
as working for the Lord…
