Where are You? Walking with God

A couple months ago my friend, Sarah, and I took a trip to the North Shore of Minnesota. While hiking Gooseberry Falls we came upon numerous signs with maps of the area. Each included “YOU ARE HERE” to advise hikers as to their exact location. We had to laugh each time we read the words. It was nice to know we weren’t lost!

In talking about friendship this past month, it’s easy to see the blessings in nurturing the gift of marriage, training children in friendship skills, and taking time for friends. Today, let’s consider the most important relationship of all…with the Lord. Where are you on your journey of faith?

How do you foster your relationship with God? Lori Wildenberg, my ministry partner and coauthor, and I encourage parents to grow in their own faith and lead their children to Christ through worship, Bible study, prayer, and fellow Christians.

Worship is for God and comes in all shapes and sizes. If you’re not involved in a church, I highly recommend finding a community of faith. But worship not just for Sunday at church. Worship God every day of the week! Praise the Lord with Christian music, prayer, dance…use your imagination.

Join a Bible study! Inquire at your church about studies beginning this fall. Another option is gathering a group of friends and diving into the Word together. Read a book of the Bible, a Christian book, or do a prepared study together.

Spend time in prayer each day. Listen and talk with the Lord to deepen the relationship. A number of prayer models can be found here for you to use in your own quiet time. Download Biblical Blessings to pray with and for your children.

Christian friends encourage and support us in faith. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend (Proverbs 27:17 NLT). The women pictured in last week’s post walk with me as I draw closer to the Lord. Scott and I spend time together in prayer each day.

Where are you in your journey with God? Jesus calls us close. He has given us all we need to be his friend forever. Believe and walk in the Light.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business.
Instead, I have called you friends,
for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:13-15
