With All Your Heart: How Do You Love?
When my youngest son was a toddler, he and I would often play a little love game. I would tell him how much I loved him and he would respond, “I yuv you Mama, dis much and even moooorrrrrr.” He would reach his tiny arms out as wide as he could and wiggle his fingers to reach even further to express his BIG emotion. I would hug him and cuddle him close.
When I think about how much I love my kids, I’m overwhelmed knowing God loves them even more. In fact, the Lord treasures my sons and all of mankind enough to spread his own arms wide, be nailed to a cross, and die for every sinful thing man has ever done. A heart filled with love, pure LOVE, in action. He even loved through his suffering. He asked for forgiveness for those who persecuted him. He directed John to care for his mother. He assured one of the thieves hanged next to him that he would see heaven that very day. Treasured, yes, we are treasured, every one of us.
But when it comes to us loving God, treasuring the Lord, do we? Where your treasure is your heart will be also (Luke 12:34). I have to admit my heart treasures other people over God sometimes. I loose my perspective, moving my husband or children into the number one spot. There is a hierarchy, God first, then Scott, then the boys.
I also treasure things. My free time, selfish pursuits, things that make my life more comfortable can take up too much space on the top of my Treasure List. This month, I’m taking a pledge. May I treasure YOU Lord, above all things and trust you in everything. May I love you with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I hope you join me!
This month we will dive deep into what it looks like to…
Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul
and with all your mind
and with all your strength.
