Conversation Starters for Grandparents

Conversation starters and stretchers are great tools for relationship building. Use positive encouragement and inquiry in today’s challenging culture, especially with your grandchildren. Criticism and anger can be very hurtful. Relationships aren’t built with disrespect. Try these questions and statements to get discussions started and to keep everyone talking. Everyone wins when conversations move in a positive direction.

Conversation Starters and Stretchers

Have you ever considered?

Tell me more.

I have a question.

I know because… (then share your personal experience).

What do you want to learn?

What do you want to do to help others?

Are you searching for the truth?

I love the way you…

I see the positive quality of _______ in you. (Share the character traits of a family member to help kids belong.)

What’s your plan? Learn to focus and execute.

The harder you work the luckier/more successful you will be.

A gentle answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1
