Organizing Ribbons & Wrappings, Boxes & Bows

I love giving presents to people! Making the package look pretty and seeing delight in a loved one’s eyes makes my heart glad. But rolls of giftwrap, ribbons, bows, and cards can be a mess. Here’s how I keep the clutter to a minimum.

• Store rolls of wrapping paper in a 13-gallon plastic trash can or similar container. It’s easy to see the assortment and the paper stays rolled neatly. Pick up extra rolls of paper when it’s on sale. It’s more convenient to have it on hand.

• Stacking baskets are helpful for organizing gift bags, ribbons, bows, and boxes. A drawer can be used as well.

• Keep the work surface clear and frequently used items handy. Scissors, tape, paperclips, pens, pencils, markers are kept within easy reach. The basket contains a hole-punch, ribbon curlers, rolls of tape, and other items. Scott picked up a dowel from the local hardware store and hung it under the cabinet to hold spools of ribbon. It’s fast and accessible. A notepad is helpful for organizing lists.

• The wire basket contains cards. Having get well, sympathy, birthday, anniversary, and other cards on hand eliminates the need to run to the store for special occasions. When you see a great card for a special friend or family member, buy it. A birthday and anniversary list keeps special occasions from being forgotten. Mailing envelopes are helpful to have on hand to send a college kid a treat. Use a smaller basket to store gift tags to tie on hostess gifts and thank you notes.

Most of these ideas can be used in a variety of ways. A closet to a small room can accommodate the suggestions to keeping giftwrap organized. organizing

Let all things be done decently and in order.
