7 Tips for a Neighborhood Friendly Halloween

Do you know the families in your neighborhood? Maybe you’re new to the area. Perhaps your little one is going trick-or-treating for the first time, so the holiday is a bit more exciting.

Be intentional this Halloween in connecting with the neighbors, both the children and the parents who come to the door by using these seven helpful tips.

  1. Decorate the front door as a welcoming home that’s not too scary for little ones. Keep a light on for safety.
  2. Ask children their names if you don’t know them.
  3. Compliment each child’s costume.
  4. As you’re handing out candy, start a conversation with the kids. Greet the parents if they are accompanying their children.
  5. Team up with another family to trick-or-treat together.
  6. Consider making a special treat bag for the children who live nearest to you. When these children arrive, make a fuss about them coming and say you have something extra special for them.
  7. Take into account children who have food allergies. Have stickers, pencils or other non-food items to place in trick-or-treat bags.
