Grandma Ginny’s Gift

Years ago, Grandma Ginny’s grandchildren played with her wooden tea service with felt tea bags. Their mother, Shayna, knew Ginny loved to sew and asked if she could make felt food items. The children were taking food from the kitchen and it did not always provide for the cleanliest and best outcome. Ginny went about the task, creating fanciful foods for playtime starting with a breakfast of bacon and eggs. The kids were delighted and asked for more. So, with inspiration from Pintrest and Etsy, Ginny started her own culinary effort. In the beginning, the items were rather simple but soon became detailed and life-like. One such intricate project was Christmas cookie dough with cutters and frosting.

Ginny’s grandchildren their friends loved running a restaurant. They made menus for their customers to order. They prepared the meals in their play kitchen, filled the plates, and served the meals. The most ordered item was always pie… a fluffy special pie. They even had a toy cash register and play money to complete the service. Granddaughter Sanna’s favorite item was a banana because she could actually peel it!

Ginny’s grandchildren, Sanna and Trey, were 3 and five years old when she began the felt art. She found sewing was a way to bring joy to her grandchildren. The fanciful food for playtime was put into a vacuum sealed pouch and set aside for the next generation of grands.
