LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

Valentine’s Day! Tomorrow is the day. No doubt if you have children in preschool or elementary school, the preparations for February 14th are in full swing.

Love is definitely in the air! Here are a few ideas for you and yours to make the day special.

• Prepare a breakfast of pink pancakes topped with strawberries and raspberries. Just add a few drops of red food coloring to the batter.
Draw the yolk back from the egg white to make heart-shaped eggs.

• Make a puzzle lunch if your kids carry a bag lunch to school. Cut the center of the sandwich out with a cookie cutter, a heart of course. Fit it back in place for a lunchtime surprise. Include a little love in the bag too, like a Hershey’s Kiss.

• Build a fort out of blankets with lots of pillows and stuffed animals. Crawl inside with your kids. Enjoy a cozy quiet time together. Include the Bible, reading 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Discuss each loving action. Ask questions like, “How do you show kindness to your little sister?” Talk about big words like perseverance by recalling times when your child had to work hard to master a skill such as riding a bike, tying shoelaces or even learning to use the potty.

• Make homemade valentines. Fingerprints can be made into cute animals or people. Construction paper hearts and snowflakes make a darling collage.
One year when my boys were both in preschool, the three of us made handprint valentines for the grandparents. Yes, it was messy! But the cards were so cute with their little hands! Grandpa Doc, my dad, had the card displayed in his office for years.

• Bake cut out cookies with your children. Decorate them with almond frosting, sprinkles or both!
Write each family member’s name on a cookie. Use the cookies for place cards at the table for dinner. Click here for my favorite recipe and ways to share the sweet treats you’ve made with others on Valentine’s Day. (Includes a download for cookie bag gift tags.)

• Lots of fun ideas are pinned to my Pinterest page for Valentine’s Day. If you need a few last minute ideas, check it out.

• Most importantly on this day when we celebrate love, tell your kids about the greatest Gift of Love of all time, Jesus. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

May your Valentine’s Day be filled with faith, hope, and love!
