Social Media and COVID-19

COVID-19 is trending on social media and we are the reason. While connecting with the greater world on social media can be comforting, it can also add angst and discontent. Humor, helpful ideas, and stories of others coping with social distancing and sheltering at home with ease can make us wonder why we aren’t as calm, content, and organized.

Has your time online increased in the past few weeks? Mine has, significantly. The positive side of all the time online is I’m in the know on the latest regarding the coronavirus as well as connecting with many family members and friends. The downside is distraction, eye strain, and anxiety.

The virtual world is sometimes a nice get-away from reality. Online communities can easily distract from our spouse and children. When we are stressed, the ones we love most often get our worst behaviors and the least of our focused time and energy. Turn the trend with these five tips.

5 Social Media Tips

  1. Choose a time to catch up online when family members are otherwise occupied.
  2. Set the timer for a specific number of minutes to be online. It’s amazing how quickly an hour can pass while scrolling through FaceBook, Instagram, and other social platforms.
  3. Keep in mind everyone is in the same boat dealing with COVID-19.
  4. Choose a day to fast from all online media.
  5. Use your social platforms to encourage and support others. Scripture and uplifting quotes are blessings to family and friends.
