The Strawberry Patch

As many of you know, my happy spot is in my kitchen garden. With an early spring this year there are already strawberries, ripe to be picked. These particular strawberry plants amaze me. Growing in a raised bed, I really thought they would be one season wonders. Instead, this is the fifth year these tiny plants have persevered through ice, snow and below zero temperatures. The plants are surviving. Actually, they are thriving and spreading. That is until the bunnies found them. Scott, my husband, helped me protect my berry patch with a three-foot chicken wire fence. My berries are safe.

While picking strawberries this afternoon, I was thinking of my boys. (They love strawberries!) Scott and I have tried to be very intentional in teaching them to trust in the Lord and to live according to God’s Word.

I cannot fence the boys in to protect them from the world like I can my strawberries. But I know Who can. Whatever difficulties come along they will not have to go through life alone.

A chicken wire fence protects my berries.

The sovereign Lord protects my boys.

But let all who take refuge in you be glad;let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
